Paypal runs safe payment site?

Paypal runs safe payment site?

I just sent in this query to paypal customer support. As usual, I know they wont answer, or would provide some 'stock' answer that doesnt answer my question at all.

I just got this email about subscription payment I created on August 18, 2009. Note there is no transaction ID mentioned so I could refer to it.
-----------------------------------
Payment Details
-----------------------------------
Subscription name: L MOHAN ARUN
Transaction date: Sep 18, 2009
Transaction time: 05:10:18 PDT
Funding source: Credit Card
Subscription number: S-9X709443WG8575057

Now it says Funding source: Credit card. Now I want it to take funding from my paypal balance, not from credit card, and there is no option seemingly to change from where the subscription is taking funding from, in thesubscription details screen. Also note that "MY ACCOUNT" screen that appears after I log in to Paypal is NOT showing this subscription payment made! (that is, $5 made on 18 sep 2009) isnt this subscription payment part of 'recent activity' and it should show in my 'all account activity'?

A few months ago, I sent another query to paypal about I am not getting payment received email when one particular person sends me money. Always. I didnt receive any response to that till date.

After these kind of experiences with Paypal, I conclude that Paypal is not good at handling ecommerce and safe payments if they are so lax about not providing meticulous details about everything and anything when it comes to money matters.

Part 10: I won an auction! What now?

Answer: follow some easy steps to submit payment.

Shortly after you have won an auction, or ended it with “Buy it now”, you will receive an email invoice for your purchase. Conveniently located right within that invoice should be a large yellow “Pay Now” button. Click on it and it will take you through the motions of sending the payment through PayPal.

Alternatively, you may go through your eBay account, click on "My eBay" at the top of the screen, and it will display that "you need to pay for 1 item". Click on that link, and then choose the "submit payment" link that will appear on your screen. Follow the steps, including logging in with your email address and PayPal password.

After you have made the payment, you will receive a receipt in your email confirming that the payment has been sent to the seller. The seller also gets an email notification of your payment, and he will proceed to ship the item to you. Most likely, you will soon receive a follow-up message from the seller that your item is on its way.

As you will discover for yourself, making PayPal payments is indeed a very easy process. No more sending checks or money orders via snail mail, or typing in your credit card details, and no more stamps and trips to the post office! The convenience of using a PayPal account is why 96 million people use PayPal every day. Easy to set up, easy to use, and it saves you a whole lot of time, an always hot commodity nobody can put the price on!

Part 9: How do I send money with Paypal?

Answer: this is as easy as sending an email.

Like any good online banking institution, PayPal has really made it as convenient and as simple as one could expect. Futhermore, since PayPal is owned by eBay, it integrates very smoothly with eBay auction transactions.

For most eBay purchases:

Most eBay auctions have a "Pay Now" or "Send Payment" link directly on the eBay page in question. If you follow this link, PayPal will fill in the details of the seller and the auction ID number for you. Often, it will also fill in the S & H information as well. All you will need to do is login with your secret PayPal password and email address, and confirm that your shipping address and primary funding source are correct. You add extra notes for the seller (e.g.
"please send via US Post"), and the money transfer takes place immediately. A confirmation email will be sent to you, and your bank/credit card will be debited within two days.

Send money by the recipient's email address:

For some eBay auctions, or for personal money transfers, you go directly to Paypal.com and click "send money". You login, and then copy-paste the recipient's email address into the "send money" form. You'll need to add in the details of the transaction, but the process is very straightforward from there. Again, your personal banking information is always concealed from the buyer.

Part 8: How does Paypal withdraw my money?

Answer: you may choose either "current balance" or "instant withdrawal" for Payment method.

PayPal is flexible, amateur-friendly, and able to extend its own form of short-term credit. Your choices are as follows:
  1. You can just let PayPal withdraw against your credit card or bank account only when you make a purchase. Once you send money, PayPal will send the funds immediately, and then will withdraw the funds from your bank/credit card within two business days. With this option, there is no need to maintain a direct PayPal balance, and there is no fee to use this technique.
  2. You may transfer money to PayPal directly, and leave that money in your PayPal account. Although you will not gain interest with this method, it does make it more convenient to separate your online purchasing budget from your regular banking and credit cards. There is no fee to use this technique, either.

The opposite: "How do I withdraw money from PayPal?"

Withdrawing money from PayPal is easy. No, it is not directly through a bank machine. Rather, PayPal credits your credit card or your bank account through a type of wire transferring. Once the money is transferred tp your bank account, you then withdraw like it any other money. While this PayPal "withdrawal" costs nothing, it can take up to 8 business days for the PayPal-to-your-bank transfer to complete.

Part 7: How do I set up my new Paypal account?

Answer: you can start a new PayPal account within minutes. The initial credit checking has already been done by your credit card company and you bank... now you just need to get PayPal to connect that information to your email address.

Requirements

You will need:
  • a valid and reliable email address.
  • and either a valid credit card and/or
  • a valid bank account in one of Paypal's 55 countries..

PayPal will record this information in confidence. Your email address will become your unique PayPal ID. Your email and your shipping address are the only two bits of personal information that will be displayed to the seller.

During the setup you will also choose a password to use together with your PayPal ID. Please make sure this password is not easy to guess, and that only you will know and use it!

Note: you may enter multiple credit cards and bank accounts to be used as your “payment sources”. While only one of these financial sources will be designated as “primary”, you can allocate payments from any of your sources at any time.

When you send a PayPal payment, PayPal will debit your primary source of funding within two business days. If you exceed your available credit limit, Paypal will attempt a second debit within another business day. Next: Once set up, you have two options for

Part 6: What Paypal account type should I get?

(continued from previous page)

Choice 3: PayPal Business Account

This is the business class of a PayPal account, best suited to individuals running a large scale online business or online store. Business account allows you to operate under your business name, and use Reporting and eBay Tools with no restrictions on transaction size. It is the best choice if you expect complex Accounts Payable. There is broad functionality for the business owners that helps them to manage very large amounts of sales with ease.

Like Premier, there is a fee to have this type of account; please check PayPal website for details. The setup process of a Business account is similar to that of a Premier account. If you currently use either Personal or Premier account, you can upgrade to Business.

Part 5: How do I get started with PayPal?

Answer: you need to first choose a type PayPal account, and set that up for yourself.

Here are your three PayPal account choices:

Choice 1: PayPal Personal Account

This is the basic PayPal account that lets you pay for your eBay purchases with ease. You can use it to send and receive money. You can send funds to anyone with an email address in 55 countries and regions. Personal account will even let you accept payments should you sell something via eBay. The catch: you can only accept payments from other PayPal accounts, and you cannot accept credit or debit card payments.

There is no fee for either the Personal account or the transactions you make through it. There is, however, a limit on how much can you receive per month. If you plan to sell a a high volume of product, the Personal account might be too restrictive.

Choice 2: PayPal Premier Account

This type of a PayPal account has all the functionality of the Personal account, plus you can accept credit and debit cards, and bank account payments. Premier account also offers such features as “shopping cart” and payment reporting tools. This account type is good for a serious amateur seller who wants to move items online on a regular basis.

There is a fee to have a Premier account; please check PayPal website for details. The setup process of a Premier account is similar to that of a Personal account. If you currently use a Personal account, you can always upgrade to Premier.

Part 4: How safe is PayPal?

Answer: PayPal is as safe as any online bank.

Although no system is 100% foolproof, PayPal has designed many checks and balances into its system to keep errors and fraud to a bare minimum. You won’t find another online financial institution that’s better at protecting its customers than PayPal. By utilizing the very latest in secure technology and employing a large team of experts in all areas of online safety, PayPal continues to be a leader in safe online payments around the world.

1. PayPal is guaranteed against fraud and identity theft. PayPal guarantees 100% protection against unauthorized payments from your account. Every transaction is confirmed by email to the PayPal account holder. Any transaction you wish to dispute will give you access to a 24/7 support team of analysts who will sort out your problem for you.

2. eBay purchases can also be insured up to $1000 through PayPal. A service called "PayPal Buyer Protection" is another way that PayPal will certify that certain sellers are trustworthy.

3. PayPal's Anti-Fraud Team works 24/7 Using sophisticated risk models and advanced technology, the team is able to detect, and often predict, suspicious activity to help eliminate identity theft. The anti-fraud team’s sole job is to make every PayPal transaction as safe and seamless as possible.

4. Many other PayPal safety measures distinguish the service from its competitors. (More technical details on PayPal safety are available here).

Part 3: What can I use PayPal for?

Answer 1: eBay purchasing. eBay sellers prefer to receive their payments via PayPal.

If you want to participate in eBay, it is imperative that you set up a PayPal account for yourself. Over 90% of eBay sellers choose PayPal as their trusted method of choice for taking payments. eBay does own Paypal, so you can be confident that its ownership is motivated to keep it a stable and reliable service.

Furthermore, PayPal is very amateur-friendly. Whether you are a new buyer, or someone just starting out as a new seller, Paypal is truly the most convenient way to do trusted payments online.

Answer 2: PayPal is also good for personal transactions. You don't need to be on eBay to use PayPal. PayPal is also ideal for moving money between strangers, without using credit card or personal information. Maybe you want to collect money for your sports team, your church, or your next group purchase of camping gear.

  • One PayPal Example: if you want to arrange a group discount purchase of paintball gear for your paintball club, you can coordinate with your friends by email, and have them send you their payments through PayPal.

  • Another PayPal Example: you find a digital camera you really like at an obscure online store in Ohio. Instead of trusting a strange store with your credit card, you send them PayPal instead.

PayPal 101: What exactly is PayPal?

PayPal

Answer: PayPal is the world's most popular "middleman service" for online purchasing. Where moneygrams and wire transfers were the standard in the 20th century, today over 99 million Internet users prefer to use PayPal to send money to each other via email. PayPal has become such a convenient and trusted way to transfer money online, 95% of eBay's purchases go through PayPal.

How PayPal Works.

As an online financial transaction broker, PayPal lets people send money to each other's email addresses. At no time will either party see the other's credit card or bank information.

Similar to an escrow service, PayPal acts as the middleman holder of money. Through its policies, practices, and business integrity, PayPal has earned the trust of both parties. With multiple guarantees in place, buyers and sellers entrust PayPal with their credit card and bank information. PayPal keeps that private customer information secret. Then, while "blinded" from the other party's confidential information, strangers safely send money to each other through PayPal and email.

PayPal Requirements

You need no special technology nor a business license to send/receive money through Paypal. The only requirements are:
a valid email address.a valid credit card or bank account.

Precisely because it is so easy to use, PayPal is the favorite of millions of amateur sellers and buyers around the world.

Downgrading A Paypal Premier Account To Personal

http://blog.codesignstudios.com/downgrading-a-paypal-premier-account-to-personal/.
posted 2007 december 17.

After writing about PayPal’s expensive upkeep, I have decided to downgrade my first PayPal account to a Personal one. My plan is to open another PayPal account and make that a Premier / Business account instead, which should be no problem because a UnionBank E-On Visa Electron account only costs 300 Pesos / year, and I am loosing a whole lot more than that for every Premiere PayPal transaction.

To do this, I first logged into PayPal and clicked on Contact Us > Contact Customer Service. Then, I selected My Account > Changing Account Type and typed in something to the effect of “Please downgrade my Premier Account to a Personal one”.

After one week, my account was downgraded and I received this e-mail:

Dear Dennison Uy,

Hello my name is Allyse, I am happy to assist you with your question
regarding downgrading your PayPal Account.

Let me first say that I am very sorry it has taken so long to answer
your email; it is due to the high volume of emails we have been
receiving.

We appreciate that you have tried our PayPal Business/Premier account.
Per your request, your PayPal account has been downgraded from a
Business/Premier to a Personal account. Please note that with a Personal
account, you will no longer be able to receive unlimited credit card
funded payments and all payments received from eBay, auctions, and
Website Payment buttons (e.g. Buy Now Buttons, PayPal Shopping Cart, or
Subscriptions payments), will be limited to the equivalent of $500.00
USD per month. (This monthly limit applies to all US, UK and Canadian
Personal accounts.)

You are only permitted to downgrade from a Business/Premier account to a
Personal account one time. If you would like to upgrade your account to
a Business/Premier account in the future, it will remain a
Business/Premier account for the lifetime of the account.

If you exceed your monthly receiving limit, you will be given the choice
to accept or deny the payment. If you accept the payment, your Personal
account will be upgraded to a Premier account.

If you receive a credit card payment to your Personal account, you can:

· Accept the payment by upgrading to a Business or Premier account.
· Accept the payment for a fee. Personal accounts can receive a
limited number of credit card funded payments per year and are assessed
a transaction fee. To view our fee schedule, click “Fees” in the footer
of any PayPal page. To view your Personal account limit, log in to your
account and click the “View Limits” link.
· Deny the payment.
There are no fee adjustments or refunds on payments received.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Allyse
PayPal, an eBay Company

Sweet. Now, to get that second E-On and PayPal account.

Paypal Subscription Payments now available

Posted September 14th, 2008

Last Friday, I was able to meet up and have a short meeting with Paypal’s Head of Asia Merchant Services based in Singapore and discuss some important developments both in the state of local e-commerce and the role Paypal wants to play in the market.

One of the more useful features of Paypal is the subscription or recurring payments which automatically bill people on a regular basis. This feature wasn’t available for Philippine Paypal accounts until recently.

As the Philippines is an emerging market, there’s huge potential here that’s why Paypal have been diligently pushing their services in the country. Below is a quick run down of the issues we talked about:

  • Size of the market. Only about 1 million Filipinos have credit cards in the Philippines. That’s less than 2% of the total population. There’s a huge gap that Paypal wants to fill in. Their primary goal is to tap the merchants to offer Paypal payments as an alternative to credit cards.
  • The Subscription & Recurring Payments. A month or two ago, this feature wasn’t available for Philippine Paypal users (my US Paypal account had it). It was a feature I really wanted so I don’t have to send billing requests for my advertisers every end of the month. This can be access via the Merchant Tools tab inside your Paypal account.
  • Paypal Plus Credit Card by Mastercard. I was told this is only available if you have a Paypal account in the US, Australia or UK. This is only offered to highly saturated markets where credit card penetration and total market volume is very high.
  • Withdrawal Limits. There are no withdrawal limits when you withdraw thru your bank but there’s a $500 maximum limit when you withdraw via credit card. The credit card limit is a security measure against potential credit card fraud.
  • Additional Bank Fees. We’re already familiar on how much Paypal charges for withdrawal transactions (EFT). That’s $5 for each credit card withdrawal and Php50 for bank withdrawals less than Php7,000. Beyond that, Paypal has no control whatsoever and it looks like banks also add charges for these EFTs which is usually Php200. We’re not sure if these are clearing charges or bank wire charges.
  • Effective Foreign Exchange Rates. It’s pretty obvious that when doing withdrawals the existing FOREX rates are below the current rates. That’s actually a 2% exchange rate fee — this is where the banks make money off of dealing with Paypal.
  • Local Currency. I’ve heard some people were interested to have a Peso Paypal currency in their account. Philippine Paypal accounts are still in US Dollars. There are a ton of paperworks and requirements that are needed to be done in order to do this.
  • Philippine Paypal Office. They have people working off of their Hong Kong office. A Philippine office is still nowhere in sight as there’s no immediate need for it now.

The number of Paypal users in the Philippines has grown a lot since Paypal offered bank withdrawals but they cannot comment on the exact number as corporate policy. We talked about several other things that I can’t share publicly though. Still, it’s nice to learn Paypal has its eyes focused on the Philippine market.

Update: I have two Paypal accounts. One 5-year old US Paypal and a 2-year old Philippine account. Comments below indicate that the Subscription fetaure has been there for months already though mine did not show it until recently (I compared the Philippine account and the US account).

How to Verify Paypal Philippines using EON Visa Debit Credit Card

How to Verify Paypal Philippines using EON Visa Debit Credit Card

How to have a verified Paypal in the Philippines using UnionBank’s EON Visa Debit Credit Card. Follow my steps and have it verified without failed in less than a month! Works 100% of the time.

Verify Paypal Philippines using EON Visa Debit Credit Card

Hi folks, do you lived in the Philippines, with Philippines now a Paypal country, the perks of eBAY merchandising, selling and buying; the freelance works done from outsourcing can all be paid and used through Paypal.

Paypal is an online cash system widely accepted all through out the internet since way back early in the 90’s. Paypal Philippines is just a couple of years old, and with Western Union’s crazy fees and the non participation of Philippine Banks to Money transfer from banks around across the world, Paypal has become an ideal monetary exchange program for Filipinos all through out the Archipealago.

Why the need to be a Verified Paypal User?

Answer is simple, you cannot withdraw the money in your Paypal account unless you become a verified user. You will have limits in your accounts, like the amount that you can transfer is limited to only a few couple of hundreds of dollars, and the amount you can received is just a few thousand. Worst you can’t take your Paypal funds and have them in your bank account even though you have clearly state in the interface in the website correct amounts and bank details. In short, just get verified and you will see the big greens ahead

How did I become Verified? Simple steps are listed below:

First you’re gonna need a Credit Card. I have 4 Credit cards, but none I used for online transactions. Why? I have been a victim of hacking on my MasterCard before so I decided to use debit Visa cards instead after that incident.

The best way to get a debit credit card is through banks that offers them. BPI offers MasterCards debit cards through Express Cash banking systems, but the one I liked most is non other than UnionBanks EON Visa Card. Because it’s a Visa Credit Card but with the debit twist. You have to go to a UnionBank branch near you or the place you work to apply for one.

Requirements are 2 valid ID’s, one is premium or government supplied and the other as supplementary or Company supplied. Bring in a wooping $125.00 [it’s peso btw lol] as a transaction fee of some sorts. Then after 2-3 weeks get back at the bank and get your VISA debit Credit Card. But be ready with another wooping $350.00 [again change the amount to peso lol] for the annual fee, and plug in a good 500 peso bill in the counter to have the card some transaction history. This is important. Don’t skip the steps above.

After 2-3 days go to your UnionBank’s ATM machine and check your savings balance. If you see your 500 pesoses in there then all is good, go to a nearby church and thank God.

EON Cyber Account application is a Must

Then after a few hours or even minutes or yes even seconds go online and apply for UnionBank’s EON online banking, you won’t miss it, I don’t want to give live links so use Google and search “unionbank philippines” or something like that and register. Then you have to wait 1-3 weeks depending on the mood of the data entry guy till your EON online banking gets approved.

Now go and log in to your Paypal account, click on the lift the limits tab and add the EON Visa Credit card. If you are able to Log in now to the EON online Banking, ebanking or Cyber account thinggamagig then in less than 48 hours you can get the EXPUSE number needed to have for your Paypal to have it’s limits waived off.

click on the image for a larger view

The EXPUSE is next to the transaction thing with the word PAYPAL written all over.

And there you have it, Paypal will deduct atleast a 100+ pesos in your EON Visa Card and will gladly pay you back the $1.95 [this time its USD] through Paypals credits.

I reckon you will try and apply for a premium Paypal membership to get the ball rolling and have all the limits erase for you to withdraw the money in your account to your EON Credit Card. Paypal will take 3 days for the money to clear and have transaction completed and your UnionBank system will eat up 3-5 days to have the money showing in your EON Card Account. After which you can swipe and buy stuff with your VISA Card or if not withdraw the money in an ATM and enjoy life to the fullest. LOL

Over all time frame till SHOW ME THE MONEY. This is a rough estimate to erase all your high hopes NOYPI style.

click on the image for a larger view

14-28 days , 2-3 Weeks = EON Debit Visa Credit Card Application

2-3 days = EON Debit Visa Credit Card test transaction e.g. ATM money check account balance etc.

7-28 days, 1-3 Weeks = EON Debit Visa Credit Card Cyber Account or eBanking application and approval

1-3 days = EON Debit Visa Credit Card added to Paypal and to have Paypal send you the EXPUSE number

1-2 days = EON Debit Visa Credit Card Cyber Account or eBanking online shows the EXPUSE number

1-2 days = EON Debit Visa Credit Card Cyber added to Paypal with Expuse number and become Verified

7-14 days 1-2 Weeks= Withdrawing and Clearing of money to your EON Debit Visa Credit Card from Paypal
________________________________
TOTAL = roughly 4-8 Weeks till you get your online money to be going straight to the real world. Not bad eh? That’s life live with it.

Oh before I forget after you have done a couple of transaction, withdrawing, recieving and adding money to Paypal and EON, the next clearing period becomes 24 hours to 2 days combined, guess having trust works in online automated systems too. Cache or Caching! LOL kthnxbai

Internet banking and visa debit card???

I use Kaisikorn (debit card cyber-banking w/a virtual shopping card). This will be obnoxiously long because i don't have the direct link so my apologies. However. it may help some people that want a Paypal link with a Thai bank.

HOW TO USE PAYPAL WITH A THAI BANK ACCOUNT AND HOW TO TRANSFER MONEY: KASIKORN BANK AND OTHER THAI BANKS
Timetable for change

HOW TO USE PAYPAL WITH A THAI BANK ACCOUNT AND HOW TO TRANSFER MONEY: KASIKORN BANK AND OTHER THAI BANKS

How to use Paypal to transfer funds from the US

1- Open a Thai bank account, for example at Kasikorn Bank, just need a passport and a Thai address (where the bank will never send any document, so any hotel address is ok)
Fill the forms, deposit some money, pay few hundreds bank for the ATM card (300 THB at Kasikorn Bank), you will get the card on the spot along with a sealed document that include the PIN code. You can keep this number or change it at any ATM.

2 - Open a new Paypal account: as it is not possible to add a Thai bank to a US PayPal account someone who want to use Paypal with a Thai bank account must open a second PayPal account and designate Thailand as the country.

3 - When opening the Thai bank account also apply for internet access to this account: to add the Kasikorn bank account to the Thai PayPal account you need to have online access (a K-cyber account) to the Thai bank account, so when you open your Thai bank account also apply for the K-cyber access and you will get the log in info by email.

4 - You will receive an email within 24 hours from Kasikorn bank telling that my K-cyber account is set up and giving you a log in and password. On your initial log in both password and user name have to be changed and the bank also requires a second password for any transactions. This can either be done via SMS or you can create a second password to use when you won't be in-country when making a transaction, and create it at Kasikorn web site, at
http://www.kasikornbank.com/portal/site/kbank. From the drop down menu, select Service Channels, then Internet, then K-Cyber Banking. A new window will open.

5 - In order to make online purchases or transactions there is another step. On Kasikorn Bank website you have to create a K-web shopping virtual credit card, which is a simple application, requiring the second password, and within 24 hours you will have a virtual credit card. It means that you will be emailed a 16-digit number (the same as a credit card), expiration date, and a CCV (the three digits on the back of the card). All of this is virtual, and this is an additional security step that the bank uses.

6 - Log in to your Thai Paypal account, add the virtual account info (which is linked to the Kasikorn account), and the card will be accepted. PayPal requires verification and will deduct $1.95 (around 60 baht) from the account and the transaction will be listed as "PAYPAL1234" or "1234PAPAL". The four digits will then have to be posted to the PayPal account to verify. In the US, a few cents is deposited and then you have to enter that information to verify the transaction. Once verified, PayPal will reimburse the $1.95.

7 - Receive email confirmation that PayPal has deducted money from your account and the email has the four digits you need to confirm my account. Go back to your Thai PayPal account and enter the four digits and you're done, now you have an online account and can go shopping online, transfer money, and any other operation available with a Paypal account.

8 - To test the transfer of funds from US PayPal to Thai PayPal send money with your Thai Paypal account to your US Paypal account, and receive immediate confirmation by email that the transaction has been completed. Log into your Thai PayPal account and see that the funds are available and accept the transfer.

9 - To transfer some money from PayPal to you Thai Kasikorn bank you have to click on "add a bank account" but as this is a Thai paypal account everything will be written in Thai, so open a second window and go to the Kasikorn web site and compare the Thai script to find your bank in the drop down window in Thai Paypal, it's the second bank listed.
Select it, and next is a confirmation page, Kasikorn Bank is now in English.
Confirm the transfer and the next window informs you that it will take five to seven days for the transfer (a little longer than US PayPal, which is three to four days).

The bank account must be entered without the dashes.

This process should work with any Thai bank, so if you try this with one of these Thai banks please let a comment on this website:
ACL Bank, Bangkok Bank, BankThai, Bank of Ayudhya, Kiatnakin Bank, Krung Thai Bank, Mega International Bank, Siam City Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, TMB Bank, Thanachart Bank, Tisco Bank, Union Overseas Bank UOB.

PayPal in Thailand

On a recent thread I posted that you can now open a PayPal account in Thailand. It is relatively easy to open the account. I opened mine using Bangkok Bank as my bank account. Part of the registration requires a credit card number. I used my Bangkok Bank debit card number and it was accepted.

PayPal makes a small deposit into your account. A security code is part of the deposit. I could not see the code with use of online banking, so I called Bangkok Bank and they knew exactly what I was asking for and gave me the code.

Now I had a confirmed account. In order to remove restrictions you need to upgrade to PayPal's Premium account. That was simple. One click of a button on the PayPal site and I was instantly upgraded.

If you are going to withdraw funds from your PayPal account by having them deposit your funds into your Thai bank account, they charge 50 baht if the withdrawal is less than 5000 baht. If it is greater than 5000 baht there is no charge.

After having done that, it was time for "proof of the pudding." PayPal's web site says it takes 5 to 7 business days for the deposit to go through to a Thai bank account. On Sunday night I transferred money from my PayPal account to my Bangkok Bank account. Today is Thursday. This morning, 9:00am I checked my account and the money I transferred had arrived.

So, not only does it really work, but it only took 3 business days.

That offers some alternatives. For example, if you have a Thai boyfriend, if he has a Thai bank account then you can have him open a PayPal account and transfer money to him via PayPal.

Also, if you hold a Thai bank account and wish to avoid those 150 baht ATM fees, then you can do as I did and transfer money from PayPal into your own Thai bank account, and then use your Thai ATM card when you are in Thailand. At any ATM in Thailand the fee for a withdrawal is usually 25 baht. If you are in the province where you opened your Thai bank account, then if you use your own bank's ATMs, there is no withdrawal fee at all.

Be advised that while PayPal issues a debit card of their own upon request, they do not issue a debit card based on a Thai bank account.

Tips on How not to get your PayPal account LIMITED

« on: May 20, 2009, 05:12:32 AM »
Got this from PMT forum:

After reading over some threads, it's amazing the things people mention regarding paypal limitations. I use paypal on a daily basis, and have done for years - but I still hate it as a company. Unfortunately paypal has brainwashed so many people into making it seem like the ultimate payment method, it's so widely accepted. But, looks like it's monopolised the online payment world, so we need to get used to it.

Anyway, here are the main reasons why people get their accounts limited:

1. New accounts - All new accounts will be closely monitored, as paypal has no idea of who you really are, how reliable you are, and whether or not you are about to commit the largest fraudulent transaction in the past 20 years. If you've got a new account, I can't stress enough how important it is to try and let the account mature for a little. I've found 30 days is always good, similar to the maturity time for eBay accounts.

2. Non verified accounts - This is a biggie. If your paypal account is not verified, please don't think it WON'T get limited. Because it will. Any old sod could sign up for a paypal account without verifying it, so it's the easiest money laundering trick in town. Verifying your account shows paypal you are who you are, you own the bank account and credit card, and you live in the location you specify. Those who claim they cannot verify their paypal accounts are obviously doing something dodgey. Your best bet is to verify yourpaypal account as soon as you open it. I find the 30 day maturity period should be after the account has been verified.

3. Physical sign up location - Always sign up for a paypal account in the country it's registered to. For example, if your paypal address is a UK one, don't try and sign up in the US. This will give an immediate red flag to paypal, as the two locations are immediately contradicting eachother.

4. Using a proxy - This is another big no-no. It ties in with the physical sign up location. Not only does it show you're in a different location to where you say you are, but paypal CAN SEE it's a proxy you are behind. After all, someone trying to hide their real IP address will immediately raise suspicion. So avoid using a proxy at all costs.

5. Free email addresses - Not a big factor, but always something to try and avoid if possible. The idea that anyone can sign up for a free email address (hotmail, gmail, yahoo, hushmail, etc) gives one of anonaminity. If you can use your ISP email, then use it. Again it helps to show paypal you live in a fixed address with an internet connection of your own.

6. Withdrawal amounts - Probably the main reason most accounts will get limited. The amount you withdraw is very important. Think, someone signs up a new account, and withdraws £1,500 in the first week. A little dodgey, don't you think? It seems that regardless of the amount, paypal often limit on the first transaction. But for your first withdrawal, I would suggest not withdrawing more than £50. Give it a week or so, withdraw another £50, and then slowly creep up the amount by £20 or so. Likewise, don't go from withdrawing £50, to then withdrawing £600. This again will raise a flag, and is likely to get your account limited.

Can often be a good idea to WAIT to withdraw your funds. Don't scab them as soon as you've received them. Leave them in yourpaypal account for 2 weeks or so. This way it allows time for possible complaints to come in (which they probably won't), allows time for any potential packages to be delivered, and makes it seem like you aren't extremely urgent for your money. After this period is up, go for the withdrawal.

7. Linked details - Be aware - eBay and Paypal WORK TOGETHER. Any banned details (address, phone number, email address, bank details, credit card) on either ebay or paypal will always be banned. Try to use them again, and you will get a limitation. This also applies for IP addresses. Be sure you are not accessing your paypal account from an IP address linked to a suspended ebay orpaypal account. If you've been previously suspended by paypal, don't even bother trying to sign up again. You will have to get a friend or family to sign up for you instead.

8. Constantly changing details - Changing your details is offering your account for a rescreening. If you change your bank details, address, or credit card details constantly, this will ertainly arouse suspicion. Your account will then get limited so you can re-verify these details. The odd change won't harm, but be sure not to go overboard.

9. Complaints - Any complaint is not good news. If you have any outstanding complaints on your account, be sure to resolve them within due course. If you have several outstanding complaints, and you try to make a withdrawal - it's likely you will get a limitation. For all paypal know, you could need to refund £400 worth of payments, and you try to withdraw, and bugger off with the funds. It's not going to happen. Clearly not getting any complaints in the first place will be the easiest thing, but if you do, resolve them as quickly as possible.

Well, these are the main reasons why your account will get limited. Try and follow these guidelines, and it will certain decrease the chances of your funds being frozen. But, please let me say the following things:

The only way to unlimit your account is to provide paypal with the documents they ask for. Don't beat around the bush or make excuses.

Don't have receipts or invoices as a proof of purchase for your item? Don't worry. Take a photo of your outstanding stock, and they can verify this stage with such photos.

Well, that's about it. Thought I'd share this as so many people were coming out with odd things about why their account was limited. And one more thing. I've learnt this stuff from PAST EXPERIENCE, hence the reason I know it's all valid information. Ignore it if you wish, I'm just offering a helping hand.

Also, may I add ...

10. Do not send/withdraw EXACT AMOUNT of what you have just received IMMEDIATELY.

11. Do not leave your PayPal with ZERO BALANCE always.

12. Always be specific. Write in the "SUBJECT" line the purpose of sending the funds.

13. Never "test send" with PayPal funds. If there's a surefire way of getting your PayPal account get limited, then this is it! DO NOT ATTEMPT to send anything like 1 usd to someone and ask him to send it back to you at once. PayPal works! That's it! No need to test it. This is almost always the mistake of PayPal newbie.

14. Refrain from accepting funds from UNVERIFIED PAYPAL accounts. 7 out of 10 times, the funds will be questioned and put on hold by PayPal. This is in relation to Tip#2 - Non verified accounts, and this indeed is a biggie!

DISCLAIMER: These are just some tips we are sharing, based on our own and the experiences of other PayPal users only. This is NOT a guarantee, whatsoever. We just hope this may help you to avoid getting your PayPal account getting "limited" status.
